Good Luck, Babe - Liminus

Good Luck, Babe

A second collaboration with Tasmanian ceramic artist Rosanagh May has been a wonderful way to lean in to the joy of perfume, story and music.

Last year, Rosanagh May and I created a limited-edition olfactory art and ceramic series that explored the emotional landscape of surprise.  This time around, Rosanagh was staging her inaugural solo exhibition, "Good Luck, Babe".  Each piece celebrates the ballads and storytelling that underpin the genre of country and western - they're technically amazing, heartfelt and also slightly tongue-in-cheek.

I created an eau de parfum, also named Good Luck, Babe to echo her collection and to scent three vessels intended for the perfume (they hold heart shaped ceramic scent tiles inside that act as passive diffusers). A perfume of contradiction, light and shade, yield and embrace, floral and leather - only 12 bottles were made.

White mid fire clay, underglaze, glaze and original scent, the pieces are titled, from left to right, "Cover me up", "Walk the Line" & "Heart Like a truck".

Here's the write up in the weekend paper:

My perfume composition was heavily influenced by Rosanagh's illustrations and musical selections.  I loved listening to her playlist and chose to bring together perfume materials that add to the visual and musical stories.  Notes of leather, florals and sweet orange, .

Did you know that, along with requiring an American flag on stage when he performed, Johnny Cash had fruit juice as part of his rider?  If Chappell Roan and Johnny Cash were sitting together under a magnolia tree sipping orange juice, I think this is the perfume they’d reach for.
