The Brand
An artisan perfumery in Hobart, Tasmania. Liminus scents feature the finest Tasmanian botanical materials and tell stories inspired by Tasmania's beauty. Every perfume is crafted by hand, in tiny, thoughtful batches.

The Name
Liminus is derived from the latin "limin" meaning threshold. Liminal describes in-between spaces and places; sensory thresholds; features in architecture, boundaries in nature, subliminal states of consciousness and transitional life stages.

Perfumery is an invisible art that sits bitwixt and between. The founding of Liminus marks a significant threshold decision, a focus on creativity and connection.

Meet Hilary, perfumer and founder
I grew up in Tasmania.  As child, weekend family walks to waterfalls through ancient rainforest were taken for granted.  Always intrigued by liminal spaces, where life is diverse; I studied Botany and Geography. With a deep appreciation for Tasmania's landscape and biodiversity, I headed further afield for my (first) career in the environment sector. Not surprisingly, sustainability is central to my perfumery practice.

Coming home to Tasmania provided new perspectives and creative possibility, the world of scent is infinitely fascinating and beautiful.

I've been lucky to return to this beautiful island and Tasmania is my muse.
