Liminus is an artisan perfumery creating 100 per cent natural products. Our scents feature the finest Tasmanian botanical materials and tell stories inspired by Tasmania’s natural beauty. 

Every perfume is crafted by hand in tiny, thoughtful batches.

The Name

The Liminus name derives from the latin "limin" meaning threshold. 

The word "liminal" is sometimes used to describe in-between spaces and places; sensory thresholds; features in architecture, boundaries in nature, subliminal states of consciousness and transitional life stages.  

The founding of Liminus marks a significant threshold decision, to focus on creativity and connection.

Meet the Perfumer

My name is Hilary, I am the perfumer and founder of Liminus. I was lucky enough to grow up in Tasmania.  As a child, weekend family walks to waterfalls through ancient rainforest were taken for granted.  I studied Botany and Geography at the University of Tasmania developing a deep appreciation for Tasmania's landscapes and biodiversity.

Previously I was a marine park manager, environmental policy adviser, energy consultant and natural tourism specialist.  I have always been intrigued by liminal spaces where life is fascinating and diverse. 

Sustainability, community and ethical sourcing are central to my perfumery.
