The name Liminus is derived from the Latin word "limen" meaning threshold.
I've always enjoyed knowing why brand names have been chosen, there's often a story, here's mine.
Liminal is a word I have always liked the sound of (I also like the word "confluence"...but I digress). Liminal describes in-between spaces and places; sensory thresholds; boundaries in nature, doorways, states of consciousness and life transitions.
Liminal moments can occur at the boundaries of perception, dreams, fleeting thoughts, a glance, intuition, perhaps something you can almost taste or smell that hovers on the edge of your consciousness
liminal (adjective)
1) at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold. "I was in the liminal space between past and present"
2) relating to a transitional or initial stage of a process. "that liminal period when a child is old enough to begin following basic rules but is still too young to do so consistently"
In ecology, liminal places are boundaries between ecosystems, known as "ecotones". Often in these places the biodiversity is greater than in either of the adjoining ecosystems. I think these edge effects are endlessly fascinating and I have always loved the exploring these places. A river bank, a shoreline, the transition between fresh and salt water, the drop-off on the edge of a coral reef or the zone where dry forest meets a rainforest gully.
I find perfume a useful way to mark transitions and liminal moments in my life; celebrations, shifts from work to leisure, marking a season, a holiday, in-between moods and times.
The transition from my old career to my new one was momentous.
Liminus was the perfect fit.
